Yeah thanks I got it sorted shortly after posting.

My next query is nocatsplash. Has anyone had much success with it. I found it to do funny things to my network, like firewall things it shouldnt, I was hoping to redirect all www traffic for dhcp clients to a webpage

to add the following lines in /etc/dnsmasq.conf:
dhcp-range=wlan0,10.1.10.10,10.1.10.250,24h
dhcp-range=eth1,10.1.20.10,10.1.20.250,24h
dhcp-range=eth2,10.1.30.10,10.1.30.250,24h
dhcp-leasefile=/var/tmp/dnsmasq.leases

Ive been playing with dnsmasq which incorporates a dhcp server. Unfortunately it needs to write to file for leases etc. Is there another way of offering leases while still remaining read only ? perhaps another DHCP server thats variables operate in RAM
