Hi Jason,

I have tested option 3 for pxe-installing voyage to 4521 a fews ago, and it works OK. I am still unsure why the console went crazy.

So I would need the following information:
1. the /etc/inittab in the live-cd
2. the serial console setting in minicom. Can you also compare the serial port setting of minicom in the live-cd and ubuntu?

These days I have been switching to pxe-install for new board installation and testing instead of using the old voyage.update way. I didn't see this problem as I run the live cd in VMWare on windows and use hyperterminal on windows to connect the board. I didn't try the minicom in the live cd.

My suggested workaround is running the live cd under qemu on ubuntu and use the minicom in ubuntu to connect the board.

Anyone have the similar experience, or has successful story on installing voyage on the live cd, please share with us. Thank you.

Regards,
Punky

I just tried to install over soekris 4826 with solded CF using newly released live CD. It went smoothly until it tried to copy files to CF, after the warning message. The copying process started and then the screen went messy with following messages:

INIT: Id "T0" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
b44: eth0: Link is down
b44: eth0: Link is up at 100Mbps, full duplex
b44: eth0: Flow control is off for TX and off for RX

I did started with # /etc/init.d/voyage-pxe start 19200 and chose menu option 3.

I noticed the output targeted system was soekris 4511/4521, and the target baud rate is 38400

Then I restarted both minicom and soekris, but minicom won't show anything.

I thought I have bricked the box and went back to Ubuntu, where minicom worked and it seems that soekris booting process is frozen immediately after boot. So I have to go through another pxeboot process under Ubuntu to reflash soekris with metrix. Now I again can see serial console using minicom under live cd.

Then I tried to install manually, choosing menu option 1, but after I reformatted the CF before getting to voyate.update, the screen went crazy again and I back to previous state (minicom stops working under live cd).

Now I am stuck ... can someone help? Is there a way I can pxe install under my host environment (ubuntu) instead of using live cd? Do you have appropriate images for that?

Thanks,
Jason
