I've found that xbase-clients is indeed needed. Don't forget to run xhosts + locally to allow remote access to your display.

Awhile ago I wrote to complain about installing xterm would require 119 MB. I finally went ahead and installed it. I don't want to run X on the box itself, what I want is to be able to pop up windows on a host when I ssh into the box.

It still doesn't work. DISPLAY isn't set. The sshd.config has
X11Forwarding yes X11DisplayOffset 10 and I've tried ssh -X <boxip>

nothing works. What am I missing?

hi blc

had the same problem with a normal debian install. for me the problem gets solved with installing xbase-clients. Maybe it's not the package itself but one of the depencecies.
