Update:
I tried usmbount on the stable 0.6.5 release and it does not work either.
I'll try it on the earlier revisions until I find where it stopped.

Subject: usbmount not working on Voyage daily build
I have been using the package usbmount on voyage versions for some time. I
just built a new version of my system with the daily build from 7/10/2010.
Everything I added worked fine except usbmount doesn't work. There seems to
be some structural change that causes it to not react. It was working fine
on 0.6.2.
It was installed from the default repository: deb
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib.
I tried the troubleshooting suggestions in the package but I run into a
brick wall when my understanding of the internals run out. I can provide a
wealth of details when directed.
Any suggestion for troubleshooting this?
