Sorry I did not seen this post in the past :-(
Now I have the same problem with long distance link try to us ath5k with
voyage-0.7.5
and have bad throughout and "bad signal" on a 8km link and was searching
my email lists ...
With voyage 0.5 and madwifi I have 7.5-9Mbps (with a signal of -80) on
my 25km link
BUT you must disable ANI of the corresponding interface with
### Disable ANI
sysctl -w dev.${DEVICE2}.intmit=0
