Hi Teco,

What is the configuration of ifplugd and in /etc/init.d/network? Doesn't "allow-hotplug eth0" solve the problem?

allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Punky

There is discussion on ifplugd. I use it for handing interface state
changes and start/stop dhclient. I don't use "auto ifname" in interfaces
file, managed by ifplugd.

Maybe there are better ways managing dhclient in a more dynamic
network, where cables are connected / disconnected. I just tested
with disabled ifplugd and "auto eth1". dhclient was not notified
on interface state change. Not acceptable for me.

If there is a replacement for ifplugd, I am fine. I havn't any reason to
search, ifplugd never let me down (yet).

Thanks, Teco

Hi Teco and all,

I am neutral for adding any packages to voyage linux, as long as those packages
make sense to add and didn't increase the size of the distribution too much.

The below list of packages all make sense to me.

Hi Punky,

The pppd package is still missing.

I also load the following packages, even on "clean" maintenance partition:
   bzip2
   psmisc
   usbutils
   libdaemon0
   ifplugd
I think many of us would benefit when having these on Voyage distribution.

Thanks, Teco
