Hi Patrick,
You did not answer exactly my 3rd question:
How MPD server access audio files in FreeNAS? Using wifi or wired cable?
Next, show me the output of "lsusb -v", I would like to know if you are
using USB Audio Class 1 or Class 2.

Hi Punky
Today it will not fail (produce clicks(, I have booted it up from
"cold off" 5 times no clicks at all!
I have looked at all my computers and electronics, I can see nothing
on or off different from when it fails. I know from previous
failures it can be at any time of the day or night.
Here is top output:-

Task mpd seems to vary from 12 to 20 % CPU
My Freenas box is wired to my ADSL/router, the MPD server and my Nokia
N800 control PDA are WIFI connected.
I have enabled the soundfile plugin, but until it fails or not I don't
know whether that did any good
I have set up a recorder to capture the audio output, next time it
fails, I will post the sound file so you can hear for yourself that I
am not going mad!
thanks for your help
regards
Patrick

Hi Patrick,
Next things to try:
1. enable the sndfile plug-in back by removing/commenting the lines:
decoder {
plugin "sndfile"
enabled "no"
}
2. run "top" to see if you mpd process or system consuming high% CPU
3. You mentioned the MPD server access your flac files stored in
FreeNAS. Do MPD server use wifi or wired cable to connect to FreeNAS?

Punky

Hi Patrick,
Remove the line "format "44100:16:2" in ALSA configuration
of /etc/mpd.conf. Restart mpd and see how it goes.
