Damn, I've just realized I've not CC'd my reply's to the list today. :-( Reverse SSH is a good idea and will not cost any extra if you already have a linux server setup
The pptp tunnel is very straight forward at your end, it works on Linux and Windows clients. LNS is L2TP Network Server, we have these deployed to service our ADSL customers, we can allow pptp connections to these (have done already for testing), it would supply a public IP (Dynamic or static). There are several pptp (and other vpn) tunnel providers out there, I'm just interested to see how this would work out for you (geek factor), if it works and you want to talk commerce then great we can do that too. We are using a customized Voyage for our smart-connect product and will soon be testing the 3g dongles for fail-over.
