Maybe... all in the eye of the beholder I guess. If it is rude to
"call" someone to task for being inconsiderate, I guess I am rude.
In this case, however, it seems that a lot have registered, and that
is *GREAT*, but the gist of the conversation was such that it seemed
that a person was upset because they had to keep restarting Miami,
and the only way they would have to do that is if they had *NOT*
registered. My registered version seems to go on forever... : )

Well, the reality is that if a program is good enough to use, it
really is good enough to buy... otherwise don't use it. If you try
a shareware program, and it does not do what you want, then you
should not use it ever again... unless it is to try a "new" version
to see if it does what you want "now". You may not agree, and that
is your perogative, and you are talking about me being rude, but *that*
is the height of inconsideration... and selfishness.
I did not intend to hurt anyones feelings, just point out that
if you use a program, and it is commercial or shareware, good
manners and proper moral code would tell a person that to use
what is someone else's property without their permission is theft.
My father would have spanked me silly if he ever caught me
stealing anything... from anyone! Most parents would have some
sort of censure for such behaviour, and act accordingly.
Although it is very common, people also photocopy books and
such without permission... that too is theft, even though
you bought the book. Using software and complaining that it
has only a 60 minute span of usage before they have to restart
it, seems to me to be a very spurious argument. If it does
not do the job, I would guess that you would not be booting
the thing up for a fifth time or so... If you are using it
enough that it bothers you to have to reboot, then you are
using it enough to buy.
Maybe I am being idealistic, but, hey, I can live with that.
I will do the "right" thing. Others have to live with their
own conscience... or maybe they don't have one.
If you have ever tried to program anything worthwhile, you
know how many days, weeks and months of your time it can
take to create something that actually "works". (I hate to
think of the hours and hours that Voyager must take out of
Olli's life... and the time he could be spending with his
wife otherwise.) I feel that if a program works for someone,
they should show their appreciation and understanding for that
effort. That is the "High Road". Many computer users, however,
seem to want to take the Low Moral Road, and expect programmers
to do all that programming for nothing so "they" benefit, and not
consider the programmer at all.
Didn't mean to sound heavy and/or grumpy... or rude, but we are
talking about one heck of a lot of time that Olli, Holger and
others have spent to create something that keeps our Amiga's
relatively current, and it just rubs me the wrong way when
someone starts to complain that they have to endure the little
PITA-type things that programmers are forced to put into their
programs because there are thieves out there...
That is why I feel people should register *Voyager*, etc. as well,
so that Olli and crew will feel compelled to support those
who have supported them. It is a case of: "You scratch my
back, I will scratch yours". Voyager would never be up
to version 3.xx without some good people registering. I
would like to think it is registered enough that Olli will
keep at it and make it totally as compliant to JS as those
other, non-Amiga programs, NS and IE.
...*And*, that he will be able some day to figger out how to
make the danged thing print properly!!!! : )
I hate having to go up to the school to print out a page
with our iMacs... Voyager really needs that capability,
and pretty quickly, ...please.
