This is definately a FAQ. The answer is that this happens when you try to
print from a screen that is more than 8bit without using Turboprint.
Setting the screenmode to an 8bit version of the current resolution will let
you print the page just fine. And as you noted, using Turboprint will let
you print from 15/16/24 bit screens.
