I hate to think of how many years ago I heard of the Kaffe 
conversion... and am still waiting.  

I wish you all the luck in the world.

However, it sounds like a 68k machine like mine would be
rediculously slow and nearly unusable if it tried to "run"
JAVA.  

Too bad Daytona died... Holger was a most likely Amiga
programmer to succeed there.  The plan seemed ot die very
quickly, unfortunately...  : /
