I would suggest you use Ghostscript. It will convert the PDF file into a
bitmap. I know GS can convert PDF to PS, and I know it can convert PS to a
bitmap (IFF). What I don't know is if it will be a one or two step process.
If it's any consolation, there are those in the PC world that I deal with
that wish to do the same thing. Inexpensive, easy to use software is
virtually non-existant for this purpose, even on a platform flooded with
redundant software.
Adobe has an email service that will convert any PDF you send to plain text.
It is designed to assist the visually impaired who need to use screen reader
software or braille monitors. Does not fit your need though, as you would
have to format the text and AFAIK, the service discards pictures.
