I'm not sure it is worth trying 2.16 beta 4. I rebooted this morning and the VPN Client no longer works. When attempting to connect, it gets to the point of "bringing up tunnel..." and after about 20 seconds or so, it returns the message "negotiation timeout occurred". Also, I am back to the problem of not able to locate DNS. However, if I disable "ShrewSoft DNS Proxy Daemon" I can resolve DNS.

So at this point, I can access the internet but the VPN Client is not functioning.

Any suggestions?

    FYI:

I experienced the same issue with 2.1.6 beta 6. I was previously
running 2.1.6 beta 4 and upgrded to "beta 6" 2 days ago. Following a reboot today, my machine could not reach DNSservers. I uninstalled 2.1.6 beta 6 and was instantly able to resolve DNS
addresses. I reinstalled 2.1.6 beta 4 and everything seems to be
working (though I have not rebooted yet.

I'm running Windows 7 Home with a realtek wireless card accessing

I was a shrew user for quite a few months while using windows 7
    RC and all was great.

I converted laptop to commercial version of windows 7 (64 bit
ultimate) and shrew stopped functioning and actually starting
    causing issues.

If I install and use either 2.1.5 or 2.1.6beta it works fine
until I reboot. As soon as I reboot I lose ALL network
connectivity and in the windows device manager all the network
devices that have 'shrew' in the name are showing up with errors
and it is preventing me from getting any type of network
    connection (wired OR wireless).
Uninstalling does not solve. The only solution is to restore to
an earlier system restore point before the s/w was installed.

Anyone else run into this ?
