The Shrew client always say

negotiation /time out/

Upgrade the Netgear firmware the the latest version? Reboot the device? They are fickle. You should see something useful in the log output.


An other issue is that I can't seem to get VPN trace to work (i.e. the
program starts but there is nothing in the logfile and yes I checked all
the checkboxes in Options)


You need to set the log level and start the trace. Have a look at this ...
