I just downloaded 2.1.7 and installed on two Win7 Home Pro 64 machines. It
installed correctly, I read thru the pdf file online, and have no idea what
to do to make a connection from outside the network to either of the inside
pc's.

We have a small office with 10 pc's, all Win7 Home Pro 64. We have a Qwest
Actiontec 1000 router. I want to be able to remotely access the workgroup
pc's from home.

Is this the correct application to use? If so, what do I have to do with the
settings to make it work?

Hi Chip,

The Shrew client actually gets installed on the machine outside the workgroup network (ie your home machine). You then use Shrew to establish a tunnel to a VPN gateway (in most cases this would be the Actiontec router). Once this is done, the VPN will be up. The VPN tunnel allows your home machine to become a pseudo-member of the internal workgroup network - in other words, it now "behind" the router/firewall on the trusted/secured network. You would then use something on your home machine like Remote Desktop to make a connection to the workgroup PCs.

So, steps:

1. Configure the Actiontec to be a VPN gateway.
2. Install Shrew on a home machine and configure it to connect to Actiontec.
3. Connect the VPN to establish a tunnel.
4. Connect to the workgroup machines using whatever application is appropriate.
