Hi,

There's no split tunnel and all your traffic is sent to the tunnel. Check what routes you have on your system after the tunnel going up:
route print

if the default (0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0) route is sent to the tunnel you won't have internet access while connected.

This can be changed only on the server side of the VPN (maybe if you change the connection to just send the traffic you need to the tunnel but I don't think this will work.

Andrew,

I have no issue connecting to the internet or with my exchange connection UNTIL the tunnel is established. If I have an internet page open before I connect to the Shrew VPN, I can work within that page, but as soon as I click on a link within that page, or try to open a new page, it won’t connect. My exchange connection stops immediately, and it sits at “trying to establish connection”. As soon as I disconnect, exchange pops right back up and whatever internet page I’ve clicked on pops right up as well.

We connect via VPN to many clients, but I always make sure any prior connections are disconnected before I connect to Shrew (or any other VPN client, actually – one at a time!) I do not have this issue with any other VPN connection. The only other VPN software that is actually installed on my laptop is Cisco – the others I just go to an internet link for the client.

I’ve just installed Shrew a couple of weeks ago, and the trouble was evident right away – the first time I connected. I’ll get some help looking into our AV Intrusion Prevention – but, it does NOT stop me from connecting to the client, and initiating an RDP connection to them. I can do my work for them – just no email or internet while I’m connected.

Thanks for the quick response.

Teri,

Do you have problems connecting to the Internet with the Shrew VPN client running? Is this the case when the tunnel is not established or after the tunnel drops?

Based upon what you have only mentioned, it would appear to me that the problem is related to your connection to the Internet. Stabilize your Internet connection and I’m sure the VPN will stay up and be more reliable. Personally, I am not aware of any specific issues with Shrew VPN being installed on a system and then having connectivity issues.

I would suggest that you make sure that your NIC drivers are up to do, the client OS is up to date, check any AV Intrusion Prevention settings (or turn them off for that virtual NIC), make sure that there aren’t any other IPSec VPN clients installed and possibly unsinstall Shrew, reset the TCP/IP stack and reinstall Shrew.

Subject: [vpn-help] Outlook interrupted

When connected to a client site through Shrew VPN (2.1.7), my Outlook (MS Office 2010) drops connection and cannot re-establish. I also have trouble connecting to the Internet (IE 8). Are you aware of this issue, and is there anything that can be done about it? I basically have no email when connected to this client. Others within our organization have the same issue.

Thank you!
