What are the causes of a "gateway authentication error"?
I see this on my Macbook Pro running OS Lion

It runs fine on my Windows 7 machine.
I believe everything is configured the same.

Here is what I see:

config loaded for site 'SELERANT BROOKLYN'
attached to key daemon ...
peer configured
iskamp proposal configured
esp proposal configured
client configured
local id configured
remote id configured
pre-shared key configured
bringing up tunnel ...
gateway authentication error
tunnel disabled
detached from key daemon

Hi Michael,

"gateway authentication error" usually means that the identity information or the pre-shared key exchanged between the Shrew client and the gateway doesn't match up.

If you can, export the Connection configuration from the Win7 machine and import it into Shrew on your MacBook.

If you can't export+import, then I'd first check to make sure the Pre Shared Key is correct in Shrew (Site Configuration, Authentication tab, Credentials tab). Re-type it just to be sure.

If that doesn't work, look at the Local Identity tab. If the Identification Type is IP Address, check to see if your MacBook has a different IP address than what is listed.
