Benedikt,
The installer would not allow the VPN client to be installed as it
wasn't able to identify Windows 8. I just added support to this and
tested the install and basic operation on both a Windows 8 32 and 64 bit
VM. Everything appeared to work as expected. In other words, the 2.2.0
RC1 should install on Windows 8 platforms without enabling any
compatibility settings.

It seems to work if you run the installer in Win7 compatibility mode.
An officially compatible version is not to be expected before 2.2.1
according to Matthew Grooms of Shrew.
