William – if you are new to VPNs, you might want to consider a more modern SSL solution (https://www.softether.org is one option); the Shrew client is for IPSec VPNs which are a “legacy” technology. And if you’re looking for a VPN to anonymize your Internet traffic (or bypass regional barriers), that’s a different subject entirely. In other words, we’d need to know your goals of using a VPN to begin with ☺
