Hi Ole,
Thanks for your clarifications on RFC1191 ,RFC8201 support in VPP. I am
also looking on path/route mtu support in each ip route add/del
configuration and fragmentation node does the fragmentation based on the route
or interface MTU. Kindly clarify whether any plans to support the same.

Regards
Vijay.

VPP supports configuration of L2, IPv4, IPv6 MTU per interface.
VPP supports the router part of Path MTU discovery RFC8201, RFC1191, i.e.
sending ICMP packet too big.

The host stack i.e. TCP does not yet support PMTUD / PLMTUD (RFC4821). And UDP
doesn't support DPLPMTUD.

I have looked at various options for Path MTU discovery for the tunnels. I.e.
dynamically adjusting tunnel payload MTU depending on Path MTU.
If I got around to doing that it would likely with a set of heuristics,
including ICMP based PMTUD but also probing.

There is also an implementation of Path MTU recording for IPv6 in VPP. But that
is of course highly experimental.

What is it you need?

Best regards,
Ole
