The moral of the story here is ‘only madmen/people run pip —upgrade pip in a script and expect the wheels to not fly off’
Obviously the LF has not learned this lesson enough. (But with the release of pip 20.0.0 yesterday it was another reminder) On getting to root cause ive opened a ticket against this script so if we ever find ourselves using it again we wont get bitten. Ill reserve my thoughts on how imo all unstable jobs could be made override +1 at this point. Since you would only get an unstable (versus a flat fail) because of some non-critical issue in the LF infra going wrong.
