in your vserver do
1) create the following mtab :
------------------<cut>------------------------------------------
/dev/hdv1 / ufs defaults 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /tmp tmpfs size=16m,mode=1777 0 0
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
-------------------<cut>----------------------

2) delete the line
   /bin/rm -f /etc/mtab*
    from the etc/rc script
