Is there anywhere to be found an explanation of how package management works with the new util-vserver system?
What I am particularly curious about is the usage of the various .rpmdb directories inside each vserver, and the .pkg directory structure under the vdirbase, and how they are related.

If I cheat, and replace the "$releasever" strings in the repository info with "4", it gets farther, but complains about not finding the proper strings later in the process.

Ah, I didn't realize this was at build time. You'll want to replace $releasever in the configuration file(s) with the appropriate value.
