I'm running several tomcat5 installs in virtual guests, so I somehow got
it working :)
Propably you must adjust ./conf/server.xml with these two lines:
...
<Engine name="Catalina" defaultHost="IP_or_hostname">
...
<Host name="IP_or_hostname" appBase="webapps"
...
