No, I used the eepro100 driver while the epro1000 (Gb Ethernet) was not in the stable kernel branch (till the 2.4.19). I also added an intel Pro100 NIC in my machine an disabled the Gb NIC in the BIOS. I used the eepro100 driver during many months and had no problem with it.
