strace just shows the XML output stopping, the process ending, and perl
getting on with SAX.
Install XML::SAX::Expat (or another fast parser) and see if that helps.
Is it possible to switch XML parsers in perl without modifying the
calling code? Wow. How do you select the parser to use, when two
different engines are installed?
