I'm afraid such talk of byte ordering is quite a bit out of my realm of
knowledge, but this sounds like a rather non-trivial change that may
involve multiple people, so if you decide to work on this then I'd be
happy to create a branch for you and grant you and/or others commit
access for this purpose, rather than having to pass patches back and forth.
