Agreed. I was just talking about packaging the app. The issue about
generating apps with relative paths and so on still stands.

Switching topic, does anyone know about http://www.wjduquette.com/notebook
?

It would be great to make a help system for vTcl with hyperlinks and search
index. The browser widget can be reused as is.

...

To be honest, I do not know starkit, so I could not tell if it resolves
the problem.

The relocation problem arises because vtcl is an application that
creates _other_ applications.

If you use external resource files, then these _other_ application only
runs from the same directory where it has been built with, which means
normally a subdirectory of some user.

You cannot install the application in a system directory, as it gets the
path to the resource files wrong (you cannot either install it as
another user).

The relocation hack is an addendum to the startup routines, which
figures out in which directory the aplication script is living, and sets
a path variable (at runtime), which is used then as the base-directory
by all widgets.

So you can install the aplication where you please. Care is taken, that
symlinks are correctly resolved to their real path.

Hope this clears things up.

 Jorge-Len

P.S.: We use vTcl in the Sam-Project http://www.sam.org.ni/
