you can to somthing of the following.
bind a procedure "min" to the "unmap" event of the main
app. window.

proc min {} {
   global minimized
   set minimized {}

   #here you can minimize or withdraw
   #all the toplevels that 
   #not transient and add their names
   #to the list "minimized"
}

bind a procedure "max" to the re-map event pf all the toplevels

proc max {} {
    global minimized

    #for each item in "minimized"
    #make it visible again.
}

I think that's all...

This way you don't have to have transient top-levels if you don't want to
but can still minimize the app. with one click.
