Hello everybody,

it happens to be one week from the start of my PgAccess project, and I
will like to make some public announcement for it.
You will find PgAccess as a powerfull and easy X interface to PostgreSQL
and I will like that you will use this interface , give it to your
friends and make this way PostgreSQL known as a good alternative to
other free or commercial databases, thus contributing to the effort of
making PostgreSQL more popular.

For any of you who haven't heard about it, please visit
http://www.flex.ro/pgaccess for a small description, for some screen
snapshots or for downloading the last version. The version 0.4 included
in the last officialy released PostgreSQL 6.2 lacks the visual query
designer and has a serious bug that have been fixed today.

PgAccess was written in vTcl (visual Tcl) an excellent tool for writting
Tcl/Tk programs. Also, with my message, I want to contribute to the
effort of making vTcl more popular. I would like to give here some part
from my mail messages from the beginning of PgAccess.

I am working now at a Tcl/Tk interface to PostgreSQL databases and I
intend to be a front-end that should look like Microsoft Access for
Windows but it wouldn't be probably in a beta phase sooner than
November or December. I intend to make the sources available and maybe
included
in the standard PostgreSQL package as an X-alternative to psql. If
anyone is currently working at a similar project, please let me know .

Ugh.. something this large is really way beyond the scope of Tcl/Tk.
Id prefer to see this done with something like Qt. I have thought about
doing such an App in Qt myself, but have not had time yet :). Maybe
soon I will get around to it :).
Yeah. My only worry is that trying to go as far as Access does will
result in a lot of processor time to interpret the Tcl/Tk as that seems
like it would be a lot of code.

At one week after the beggining, (not November or December) you could
see now the results! The source has now only 96k !!!

PostgreSQL, vTcl (Tcl/Tk ) are certainly some powerfull tools in order
to make more easier your work.

A wish you enjoy working with PgAccess
