Since coming to office in January of 2001, after losing the popular vote and
disenfranchising unknown numbers African American voters in Florida, George W.
Bush has pursued an incredibly destructive rightwing agenda. Bush and his gang
of neocons have carried out a brutal series of wars and occupations (from
Afghanistan to Iraq to Haiti) and have pursued an equally brutal program at
home; cutting much needed social services, de-funding public schools, and
slashing environmental protections. In Iraq alone, nearly 1,000 US soldiers
and tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians have been killed - as the occupation
continues these numbers will surely increase. This August we will have
a chance to tell Bush and the rest of the Republicans what we think. As they
converge on New York City for the Republican National Convention, we too must
converge in the City to raise our voices in protest. In a Similar vein,
progressive minded people must also begin to discuss strategies for defeating
the Bush agenda in the upcoming elections. It is time to carefully examine
which candidates offer a real alternative to war and occupation and which do
not. Come to a panel and discussion to talk through these very questions.
