Not too late so please take action--Call Senators Leahy and Jeffords and ask them to vote AGAINST SR 408, in other words ask them NOT TO ENDORSE the illegal wall Israel is building in the Occupied Territories. Tim Rieser told me today that the bill has 40 co-sponsors, has been referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations, and he adds, "I have no idea if it will come before the full senate for a vote this session, but I doubt it." Background: On July 9 the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that the wall Israel is building in the Palestinian West Bank is "contrary to international law" and that Israel must cease its construction, dismantle it, and pay reparations to those damaged by it. Members of Congress who support Israel's military occupation responded by introducing legislation condemning the ICJ ruling and backing Israel's illegal wall. The House quickly passed a resolution to this effect in July but a sizeable number of Members of Congress voted against it or abstained. Bernie Sanders voted against it. SR408 is a similar senate version, introduced July 20 but held over until after Labor Day.
