BUSTED!

The U.S. Army Recruiting Command is conducting an "Army Values Stand Down Day" across the country on Friday, May 20.

The so-called "stand down" follows a rash of complaints that recruiters are resorting to unscrupulous methods to enlist new soldiers. The US Government’s illegal and immoral war on Iraq has become so unpopular that the Army is finding it increasingly hard to find recruits. Forced to meet quotas, Army recruiters have resorted to tricks and pressure tactics to cajole young people into join the military.

In one case, Houston’s 11 News Defenders revealed that a Houston Army recruiter threatened to arrest a local young man if he didn't report that day to the army recruiting station.

This is only the most recent case: the Army has investigated 480 allegations of impropriety by recruiters since Oct. 1, 2005.  Some of these cases are still open while 91 of the 480 allegations have thus far been considered founded. To date, eight recruiters have been relieved of duty and another 98 have been reprimanded by their commands.

Join us as we conduct our own "values stand-UP" to let the Army know what we think of their recruiting practices!  Bring Signs, Banners, and Bullhorns to send the message that illegal and immoral wars result in illegal and immoral recruitment practices. Our message is not aimed at the recruiters so much as at the war and those who chose to start the war.
