Even though these tremendously busy people gave up a couple of hours of a precious Saturday to come to the vigil (S'ra, Mousa, Kris, Jean, Marmite, Miriam and the soulful accordianist and guitar player), and we had new signs and new hand-outs, the vigil was frustrating. PEOPLE DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT THE WALL IS ALL ABOUT. NOT A CLUE. The media's total avoidance of the immorality of this apartheid wall with US complicity has taken its toll.
We have work to do - education. Some ideas follow, and PLEASE be thinking hard about ways to reach the public and send along ways you can help. 1) A display in Peace and Justice lobby. We can't have the window, which would be the best, but Nina is putting her creative self into photos for a banner or possibly triptych. 2) Kris is contacting people who might convince the Burlington Free Press that an article on the wall is essential. 3) LETTERS TO THE EDITOR. If you ask Wendy Coe, she could possibly do you the favor of fax-ing your letter to all media in Vermont. 4) Anyone willing to lead a discussion (with visuals) at a forum at the library or Burlington College, or similar venu? 5) A weekly report on Salam-Shalom (with maps) on the deadly march of this wall. 6) Any other ideas? The status of where we can stand during our vigils is now in Gene Bergman's office, and I'll keep you posted. Nancy ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> Fair play?
