***********************Please Forward******************* SPORTS, RAP, AND RESISTANCE: TIME TO BUILD A NEW CIVIL RIGHTS MOVMENT!
Wednesday October 5th, 7pm Lafayette Room 102 on the University of Vermont Campus Free and open to all! Millions around the world watched Hurricane Katrina's destruction and aftermath with horror and shock. It laid bare that we live in a racist and class based society. On October 16th, civil rights leaders have called for a "Millions More March", the first national anti-racist march in 10 years. There is potential now to organize and fight against racism in our society. Come hear Dave Zirin and MC Son of Nun speak and rap about the deadly impacts of systemic racism in the US and the world at large-as well as the world of sports and hip hop-and what we can do to organize against it. Dave Zirin is the sports columnist for the Prince George's Post, for which he writes the weekly piece, Edge of Sports. He is the regular sports commentator for Air America and XM Radio's 'On the Real' with Chuck D and Gia'na Garel. His new book What's My Name, Fool!: Sports and Resistance in the United States (Haymarket Books) is now available in stores and at haymarketbooks.org.
