Regional Educational Technology Network (RETN), which broadcasts on Channel 16 on Adelphia Cable in the Greater Burlington area, is airing a series of specials on the subject of media awareness.
On Thursday, October 20, RETN will air the program "On Orientalism" with the late Columbia University professor Edward Said. Said's book _Orientalism_ has been profoundly influential in a diverse range of disciplines since its publication in 1978. In this engaging and lavishly illustrated interview Dr. Said talks about the context within which the book was conceived, its main themes, and how its original thesis relates to the contemporary understanding of "the Orient" as represented in the mass media. The program airs at 11 AM, 8 PM, and midnight. Media Awareness specials air on RETN Channel 16 the third Thursday of every month at 11AM, 8PM and midnight. These programs are licensed by RETN from the Media Awareness Foundation and more information on programs and resources from the Media Education Foundation can be found at <http://www.mediaed.org>. ------------------------ Yahoo!
