Copying config.boot is the right idea, once you have the correct base.
 Obviously, you'll need to adjust for the specific router you're
working with; the major changes you'll need to make are to the IP
addresses and the hw-id entries in the interface configuration, so the
IP addresses match the MAC addresses.

If you're working on the console, you can check the log
(/var/log/messages) to see what didn't match up correctly.
