That script was once supposed to be a safer alternative to simple "apt-get dist-upgrade", but it never worked all that well (that's why image installation was introduced in the first place), it was last modified in 2011, and most of git log is like "fix that thing that broke in new version". As a bonus, it includes this warning:
Considering our normal advice for people is to just use the image installation and avoid the system based installation, combined with the fact that we only officially support the image based version, it's probably high time we scrapped it altogether.
As you've said, we you look through both the system based install scripts and the git logs, most of it involves workarounds / fixes for things that are just broken.
Finally, as the image based install gives you a clean baseline for every version you install, this way makes much more sense as users can easily revert to a known working version / config if needed.
Time to finally retire it I think. _______________________________________________ Vyos-developers mailing list Vyos-developers@lists.tuxis.nl http://lists.tuxis.nl/listinfo/vyos-developers
