Below is a post I made to the OWASP Live CD list on December 12th. I should have posted it here as well since the live CD now has w3af. Also, there should be a beta version of a VMware install of the OWASP Live CD available by the end of the week (2008-12-19) just in time for Christmas! (Sorry no updated, red-hat wearing logo though)
Subject: OWASP Live CD Portugal release available Just a quick note to let everyone know that the latest, greatest version of the OWASP Live CD just got uploaded to the project website (finally). This is a release to add an important tool as well as make an existing one easier to use. I also introduced sanity into the menu structure. The project goal is to create a framework to find and exploit web application vulnerabilities that is easy to use and extend." Think AppScan or WebInspect but at a much more attractive price ($0) The Live CD install of w3af has: * both the interactive console & w3af GUI installed * a menu item to update the current install from SVN so you can keep the Live CD up to date with latest version * the latest SVN version (as of 2008-12-07) * the steps to build the module are fully documented [2] --- Web Goat Manager --- An update to the previous Web Goat module is included in this release as well. I created a "Web Goat Manager" GUI to start and stop Web Goat, set the port number for Web Goat and launch Firefox at the local instance. Access to Web Goat without any command-line funny business. Let the learning begin. --- Send your Feedback --- Bug reports, feature or tool requests, complaints or general praise - I'll take anything. Your feedback is what makes each release better. The improvements on the current release came from user feedback. Keep it coming. BTW, its named the Portugal release in honor of the OWASP Summit 2008.
