The problem I see with boats may have more with my way of fishing the
Narrows than with fishing from a boat itself. I like to use the current and
my flyline belly to amake the fly work. In the slack water with the fish
cruising along the seam between the slow and moving water, it seemed that I
would have to position my boat in the still water with my back to the
shore. I would anchor so as to use the current. If the fish are 100 feet
off shore, then I would want to be 50-60 off the beach. Which is no problem
unless other flycasters are on shore after the same school. If you get into
the moving water, then you will zoom by the fish, especially if they are
traveling in the opposite direction. The times I have been in a boat in the
Narrows, I spent my time fighting and positioning myself in the current and
not fishing. Or, having to strip way to fast for the fly I am using.
Anyway, the guys I've seen in the boats do well when they are stationary.
When they are moved by the current, is when it seems they are at a
disadvantage.

My thoughts, for what it's worth.
