Hey John,
Skagit has picked up a bit, but not "hot" by any stretch of the imagination.
I floated it on Saturday with 3 friends and between us we had one fish on
and several Takes. Two others floated the Sauk from 5am thru dark and
didn't get a touch. Other reports I've heard sound about the same.
And if you're back in 5 months, you'll still catch the end of the Summer
season and have a chance to test that fly yourself!
Cheers, Mate!
Brian

Subject: Greeting from Down Under/Summer Steelie Pattern
Hi Gang,
Having a wonderful time "Down Under." Haven't had the chance to get out and
fish- winds have been absolutely awful. There is, however, plently of beer
to keep me busy! Most of the fly shops here in Townsville are dual purpose-
sell regular gear as well. They don't carry much of a selection however,
seal fur is in abundance for a reasonable price (3 x 3 bag runs roughly
$2.75 US).
Anyways, I have been killing the morning time tying up flies. Devised a new
Summer Steelie pattern that I will not be able to use until next year.
She's a beaut I tell you. I willing to let a few go for "trials." Let
say...if the first 6 folks that respond with an snail address I send them a
fly if they absolutely promise to fish it. The pattern has a lot of
movement to it. Artic Fox wing and an underwing(strip) of fl. pink floss,
rabbit collar, and floss tail also of fl pink floss, and the body is blue
holographic tinsel. The wing is tied Ed Hass style which I like but makes
for a bigger head than I prefer. So...the first six folks.......
Did the Skagit turn on yet? Reports from earlier indicate a big thumbs
down.
How about the salt? Have only seen a few reports..
See you all in 5 more months... save some fish for me...
