The WDFW has announced that the Icicle will be open for Chinook from 5/15/00
through 7/22/00. The biologists estimate a return of between 13,000 and
17,000 hatchery fish "produced specifically for recreational harvest" Only
about 1,000 to 1,200 fish are needed to meet hatchery broodstock needs,
leaving the rest available for harvest.
I imagine that this is mostly a hardware, pitch it and snag 'em show but I'm
wondering if any of you have fished this run with flies. Or have you caught
Chinook on flies in any other river? I've tried without success but would
like to give the Icicle a shot and would appreciate any tips any of you may
have. (fly patterns, line, etc.) The river will be open from it's mouth to
400 feet below the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery rack. Anyone acquainted
with any good access points? Ted Pearson
