Anyone looking for a good saltwater fly reel may find this useful.
A place called Gart Sports is running a sale on Penn International 1.5G
Fly Reels for $99.99. Spare Spools are going for $45.00
Cabelas catelog lists these reels for $329.00, spare spools for
$127.00.
These reels have 3 ball bearings and Penn's famous HT100 drag system.
They're machined from marine aluminum bar stock and are manufactured in
the U.S. The reel takes 150yds of 20# backing with a WF-6-F line. The
reels are a bit heavy, however, weighing in at 7oz.
I discovered this sale when my wife put an ad insert from yesterday's
TNT in front of me this morning asking if the waders depicted were the
kind I was looking for. The gold 1.5G reel was pictured right above it
and, figuratively speaking, jumped off the page at me. Yep, I'm now the
proud new owner of one.
The store carries some low end FF gear but there's not much to get
excited about.
