Fished a small lake nestled on the flank of Keechelus Ridge just east of the
Snoqualmie Pass Summit on 7/10. Caught and released about a dozen beautiful
mountain brook trout 8" to 10", and long distance released at least that many
more. They were actively taking size 20 gray midges but I had my best luck
with a # 12 floating carpenter ant pattern. Getting there requires a short,
steep hike through old logging slash and snow bent blueberry bushes. Trees
and thick brush around the shoreline make casting a haphazard performance at
best and a just out of reach limb snagging fiasco at worst. The fish were
eager though and the views from atop the ridge fantastic. A few "skeeters"
were around but what the heck, the high lake season is finally here.
