Fished another small lake on the east slope of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness
Area of the Central Cascades on Thursday. The lake is only about six surface
acres but despite it's small size, it has a plentiful population of trout. My
fishing partner and I managed to catch and release many small, scrappy
cutthroats in the 8" to 10" range. A small ( #14 ) parachute mayfly and a #12
seal fur nymph were the ticket. Kudos to the USFS for the road and trail
maintenance and the WDFW and fishing clubs for keeping most of our alpine
lakes stocked with trout. Somehow they manage even though budgets are tight.
