Well this old gimp made his first fishing trip after knee surgery on 6/30.
My father in law is in the process of getting a guide service started on the
lake so we joined him to help break in his new Bayliner and to explore the
lake a bit.
The Lakers were hard to come by this weekend. We had one break off first
thing Sat. morning and then didn't get another bump. My father in law had
spent a week up there and taken at least one Mack every day up until my
arrival. Since the kids were with us, we really didn't fish more then a
couple of hours each day so I am sure that played a large part in our lack of
success.
On Sat. we took the kids out and set up the gear for Silvers. We caught 7
nice 11-12 inch Silvers and one 16 inch rainbow. The Silvers will be tasty
after they come out of the smoker so I am looking forward to that.
On Sunday we ran up to Stehekin. I am still in a leg brace so can't hike or
creek fish yet. I had to settle for casting around logs and other driftwood
at the mouth of the Stehekin River. The hard part was I had just finished
making a new little Sage LL 3 wt that I was dying to try out. The rod is a
dream to cast and I can't wait to use it proper. I couldn't convince
anything to come up to the Caddis I was casting but we did see several 18
inch cutts or rainbows swimming beneath us.
That's the trip in a nutshell. The rest of the time was spent towing the
kids in the Doughnut behind the boat and losing some quarters at Mill Bay
Casino.
