I just returned from a week long fishing trip to Ennis, Montana. I
fished the Madison River, but the average size of fish was very
dissapointing in this body of water. My biggest was about a 12" rainbow.
Another river we fished, the Ruby River, was another story, I only
landed 1 fish (my first on nymphs in moving water), but it was about an
18" rainbow. I fished other smaller cricks and caught several fish upto
13-14". I was fortunate enough to be able to ride a horse up to 2 high
altitude lakes, the first of which I caught my biggest fish of the trip,
a beautiful 20-21" cutthroat and about 4-5 lbs. The second lake was very
productive, though had much smaller fish. I landed 25-30 fish in about
2-3 hours of fishing, the biggest being about 12-13".

Danny McMillen was kind enough to send me a couple of his Easy Rider
flies to try out while I was over there. Unfortunately I only used one
and while I got a lot of looks, I only got one rise but I missed him (oh
well, I caught him on my way upstream on an elk hair). I was using it as
a hopper pattern and I think that it was just to big for the hoppers
over there this time of year. I must say that this is an absolutly
beautifully tied fly and it does float extremly well. Sorry I didn't
catch a big one with it Danny, but I did try.
