Thanks Allen. Much more info than I asked for, but all of it needed and
appreciated! I read on a WA alpine lake table (see attached) there may even
be Golden Trout up there. Sounds like the fishery is a good one, can't wait
to see some of those trout you mention. I will share the report next week!

Cheers,
Brian

Hi Brian,
I hiked up to Greider a few years back (I'm fairly sure that it remains
pretty much the same) and believe it or not, I counted close to 200
switchbacks. The trail head is up in the Sultan Basin on the SE end of Spada
Lake and is well marked with a parking area for vehicles. You'll see the
trailhead as you drive by boat launch #4 (on the watershed map that you will
pick up at Olney Pass when you register to drive into the watershed) about a
mile or so. The trail gradient is moderate and takes you up into a saddle
for about 2 1/2 miles where you will reach Lower Greider Lake (very small
and shallow) and just up the rise is Upper Greider with a few forest service
campsites. Very beautiful boardwalk along the upper sections of the trail
which cross over the outlet streams, which the forest service crew installed
some years ago. The lake is actually a cirque that sits at the top of the
saddle and is quite pristine. It also has some very nice rainbows that we
played catch and releas!
!
e with for a few days, averaging about 12-14" with a few that will reach
16-18". The latter being the exception, not the rule. Lots of small midges
and mosquitoes, so chironomids and soft hackles worked very well on a full
sinking type II line. My fishing partner also hooked a brown trout which
surprised us both!
Hope this helps.
Wish you luck!
Al Peterson
