Well I finally ventured away from the friendly confines of the Middle Fork of the snoqualmie. This being my first season I had not summed up the courage to go anywhere else until Saturday morning. I headed up the the north fork of the stillaguamish in search of sea-run cutts. I actually started in the main river but the water clarity was poor and the wading possibilities seamed few and far between. Needless to say I had no luck for the first few hours until I decided to drive further up river. I went to check out the infamous fortson hole but didn't have the guts to jump in and fish. There were quite a few people already there and really did not feel like fishing in a crowd. So I walked downstream about 500 yards and fished the next hole. I immediately hooked into a nice 12-13 inch cutt on a spruce fly. I know nothing impressive but still the biggest fish I have caught on a fly. That fish was immediately followed by 2 more cutts of about the same size. I then didn't catch anything for an hour and then to my surprise hooked into a steelhead. Well my 4 weight was quite overmatched so I just let out some slack line and the fish threw the hook. While I was wishing I had brought the 6 weight it was still fun. I think my days of chasing 8 inch rainbows in the snoqualmie may be numbered. I think I may visit from time to time but now that I have a taste of what is out there my fishing world has opened up a bit. Thanks to all for their advice and I can now say fly fishing has become a passion....
