This is the time of year when everything happens at once with silvers.
If you pick your favorite spot in the South Sound you can pretty much
have a shot at fish, but you better hurry. Yesterday we started the day
at a favorite haunt where we had 4 fish in an hour just a couple days
before, now it had 3 nets strung so not a fish could cruise the beach.
This gave us at least a couple of days for a season.

We moved on to the next spot motoring past the net drifting in mid
channel heading for the vessel traffic lane. We saw a few fish moving
but found that the cutts were around pretty thick and spent an hour or
two playing with the natives. Then a trip through the Narrows at high
sun gave us a good look at what was around. We spotted a school of about
75-100 fish resting in one drift. The interesting thing about it was how
tightly packed they were and how shallow of water they were in. The fish
weren't moving much and not a fish was jumping so we remained silverless
after the great show.

We finally moved to another spot of which we did not have alot of hope
for, but snuck in slow and quiet anyway. We spotted one and another and
a bunch more. These fish were very bright and fresh within the day we
would guess. The nerves were tingling and the fish started to roll for
us. We quickly adjusted to waiting period fish and had a hook up in the
first 5 minutes. The second hook up a few casts later landed a nice 8 lb
fish. An hour into it the gillnetters showed up to scout for fish and it
will surely be netted out by tomorrow. The day ended with 12 on and 7 to
the boat, not bad...if we had found this place earlier it could have
been one of those great days. At least we had a one day season on that
one.

Carr inlet was closed to salmon on Sept 16 - Oct 1 this year to licensed
fishermen. I was told it was to protect the endangered hatchery salmon.
There are a number of Native nets in now on Green Pt. and more spotted
putting in at Wauna (Purdy)...all Carr inlet.

If you find yourself skunked at one of your favorite South Sound rivers
or bays...just remember to stop by Denny's or Safeway or cat food store
and you might find a good days catch there. And if you get a tip on a
hot spot make sure your there within the hour or kiss it good-bye.
